Urban Design

Place Ville-Marie is a landmark of Montreal. It is the nexus of what is known as Montreal Underground. Despite its significance to Montreal, Place Ville-Marie is a place where nothing happens. People go there without really realizing where they are. They also get the false idea of being underground, but that is only a matter of taking a point of view.

While doing this, I only learnt one important thing about myself. I would rather identify problems and fix what is wrong than create new things which will only generate more problems in the long run.

Video 1 and Video 2. These videos were only meant to be cool and I never presented them. I've also learnt that you can't show everything and the coolest things are not always the right things to show. Everything must be done at the right time, right place with the right people.

The fictitious order was to developp the area above the metro Saint-Laurent which, at the time, looked like the photo shown above. In this urban setting, we had to design a bench, a lamp and a bus shelter. The result is shown in the photos below and there are more details on the project.

This bus shelter was used for the project of the corner Saint-Laurent/Maisonneuve. The design of this bus shelter takes into account both people who are waiting for the bus and those who aren't through its bench that goes around under the roof. It is as simple a bus shelter can be; a roof and a structure to keep the roof up there.
The shelter's bench is exactly the same one used for the bench designed for the project.
