Batman: Gotham Knight (2008)

July 17th, 2008

The Dark Knight releases tomorrow, as one of the most anticipated movie of the year. I expect the movie to be breath-taking and at least six scenes were shot with an IMAX camera, so I suspect that during those scenes, you would just be on the edge of death. That is reserved for the future, but in the present time, there is a DVD titled Batman: Gotham Knight.

Batman: Gotham Knight is a DVD with six stories meant to bridge the events between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. It really sets the mood for the events to come. Every character has one thing in common: confusion, whether it’s lieutenant Gordon, the people of Gotham, Bruce Wayne, Batman, Alfred, the Joker, or the criminals. The arrival of Batman has brought hope to the people to reclaim their city, but it has also brought new criminals. Some people on the side of good, like uncorrupted cops, still don’t know if the Batman can be trusted.

Batman himself must figure why he keeps doing what he does. Just like the people aren’t sure if they can trust him, he has to figure out who he can trust.

The one thing, the one person who has also been a constant throughout Batman’s history, is Alfred Pennyworth, Bruce Wayne’s butler, assistant and confidante. I would call him the wise man behind the man.

In all, Batman: Gotham Knight is as dark as Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. If Batman Begins is black and The Dark Knight is a black hole, then Gotham Knight is the birth of a black hole.
