S60 Applications
Anything below this paragraph has been written since summer 2007. I don’t know why I never published it.
I installed so many third-party applications on my Nokia N95 that I want to keep track of them just in case I ever have to perform a hard reset on the device.
Gmail
Gmail is a great free application. As far as I know it works on every mobile phones on the market. I used it on the Samsung D807x, Nokia 6682 and Nokia N95. Every version operates the same way. Whatever is performed in the software is mirrored in Gmail’s servers. I particularly like the feature to preload messages. It allows to access emails faster and uses more data, but that doesn’t matter since I always use Wifi.
Google Maps
As far as I know, like Gmail for mobile, Google Maps is free and works on every mobile phones on the market. I used it on my Nokia 6682 and it was great, but it was pretty slow since it wasn’t 3G or Wifi.
Now with my Nokia N95, I already have built-in maps which doesn’t require any type of connection, so I use Google Maps as backup just in case Maps doesn’t find a location I want.
Handy Taskman
Handy Taskman is a replacement for the built-in task manager. It allows to lookup installed applications, to close and kill running applications, to display a list of recently opened applications, to view a list of opened application and to see memory status (RAM and space).
NSysInfo
NSysInfo is a free application shows a lot of information about your phone: model, firmware, IMEI, battery level, signal strength, memory, network, operator, and a whole lot more.
nuTsie
Use nuTsie to listen to your iTunes music library on the go.
MobiSystems OfficeSuite
OfficeSuite allows you to edit word and excel documents natively. The latest version also supports PowerPoint documents.
Opera Mini
This is the mobile version of Opera, the browser that never really took off, but always stuck around. If you don’t have the iPhone, Opera Mini can give you a close enough experience with its zooming in/out and easy navigation.
Truphone
This is the best of the bunch. Truphone is a mobile VoIP service based in the UK. Calls, both local and long distance, can be very cheap. Until 2008, they are free in certain countries in Europe, and also in USA and Canada.
