Possible iPhone Cost for 3 Years in Canada
After the announcement that the iPhone will come to Canada on July 11th, some people were enthused and some kept their distance, because new plans and pricing weren’t announced. This week, a memo concerning prices was leaked.
Data plans seem to be identical to AT&T’s $30/month for consumers and $45/month for enterprise. That price includes visual voicemail and unlimited data (web and email). The nature of the data is specified making one wonder what could the hidden fees possibly be, or perhaps unlimited doesn’t mean unlimited.
The data plan must be added to a qualifying voice plan. Again, a question rises here: what is a qualifying voice plan? Personally, I am hoping the $25/month voice plan qualifies. It’s one of the cheapest and it suits me. I also have a $11/month value pack.
So far, the iPhone could cost me $66/month. Rogers charges a useless $7 service access fee, which brings the total to $73/month. With taxes, it comes close to $85/month (I rounded up from 83.22$). Considering there is unlimited data, it’s definitely worth it. WiFi access in Montreal is rather scarce, so chances are that I will be using data like a madman.
On top of all that, a 3-year contract must be signed. The price for three years ends up being about $3000 (I rounded down from $3060) which is about $1000/year. That’s about a month’s rent depending where you live in Montreal, which isn’t so bad at all.
Now, I’m just hoping my voice plan qualifies. The leaked memo is at least at two locations: this website and this forum.
