Transformers: The Game

July 18th, 2007

Who thought the movie was cool? Raise your hand. Ok, now, who actually just raised their hand? Yeah, I think I’m funny and you think I’m an idiot. Works for me. Transformers is a great movie in a lot of opinions. Many things contribute to that: directing, actors, visual effects, sounds, lighting, editing, cool cars, awesome action scenes, and of course the robots. Then there’s the video game.

I was just watching my little brother play that game and it’s just great. You start by choosing whose side you’re on: Autobots or Decepticons. On the Autobots’ side, you start out as Bumblebee and you have to get to Sam Witwicky and just like in the movie you have to protect him. There are also Sector Seven people who keep shooting at you and they are very annoying.

Along the way, you incarnate one robot after another and there are some decepticons whose names I don’t know, but that doesn’t matter because I really just want to kick their butts and see them torn up to pieces. It’s very cool to see that.

The graphics are all right. They look very much like Spider-Man, the game. It’s not as sophisticated as the movie, but it’s good enough for gameplay. The game is filled with action and races against time which makes it very exciting.

Being a big fan of soundtracks, I couldn’t help notice the excellent sounds and music in both the movie and the game. If you let it, it can control your feelings and I strongly advise you to let it. It makes you never want to give up, even when you see that your life bar is almost empty, you just keep going. And after you’re dead, it’s not over, you just have to kick ass.

Transformers is unfortunately single player game. There’s no option for multiplayer. It would be cool to have a party and play Transformers with several players battling each other, making a stand and transforming into cars and planes to escape imminent death or to pursuit someone who flees and see all the fire power flying around all over the place.

To conclude, buildings and roads are destructible.
