Stealing Photos
Just like there seems to be a trend among young female celebrities to get in trouble and go to rehab, there also seems to be a trend among photographers finding out their work being commercially used without their consent and even without their knowledge.
The targets are photographers who feature their photos on flickr. It’s not so surprising, because flickr is not exactly invisible and a lot of quality photos can be found there.
It started (I think) with Rebekka Guðleifsdóttir who posted about her discovery on flickr and then the post got deleted, but an apology was issued a little later. To this day, Rebekka received no compensation from the perpetrator.
Today, I read Miss Aniela’s post about Lara Jade being another victim of photo thievery. This time, rather than merely being sold, Lara Jade’s photo was used as a cover for pornography. She took the shot when she was 14 and she is still a minor today.
Lara did contact the company and the short version of the response she received is “Screw you”.
A few months ago, this photographer, also on flickr, successfully sued the idiots that stole her photo. At least there’s one happy story.
Actually, none of these stories are happy, but they can have happy endings.
