Tutoring

October 14th, 2006

I started tutoring math, physics and a little bit of chemistry last year. At the time, it was just to get a little more money to save myself from having to pack up a lunch. I am just that lazy, but eating a meal in a restaurant is better than any lunch I can prepare.

The people I tutor are high school teenagers and a few elementary school kids. Since the academic year started, I started tutoring again.

Today, there was this girl who solved a bunch of equations and had them almost all right as opposed to another one who had them almost all wrong. A feeling of satisfaction and pride came over me. I never felt that before and it feels pretty good.

I don’t feel that a lot. I feel happy and sometimes euphoric when I learn something new that is really exciting, but it’s not the same thing.

Tutoring has its good sides like this one that brings great feelings, but don’t get me wrong, I’m still doing it because I am still too lazy to pack my own lunch and I am lousy at it. Nevertheless, I wonder what teaching is like.
