Nintendo in the Shadows.

May 13th, 2006

Lately, in the gaming world, people have been talking a lot about Wii, Nintendo’s next console that is expected to be released by the end of this year. I already talked about the cool controller.

Since E3 began, Nintendo has given one surprise after another from everything related to the controller to the number of games that will be available on the day Wii is released. Not to mention the many games that were announced especially Super Smash Bros Brawl which include many new characters such as Samus without her suit, Pit and Wario. The most surprising addition is Snake, a character that I have never heard about, but he is creating a lot of excitement in the gaming world.

Every single one of Nintendo’s has been greatly welcomed with big smiles. Nintendo has talked about many more surprises from now until Wii releases. The only thing that remains in the dark is the price of the console. It is sure that it will definitely cost less than the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. There are a lot of speculations about the price being somewhere about 200 USD. I wouldn’t be surprised if that becomes the actual price. Basically, it means that we could buy three Wii for the price of one Playstation 3. Why would anybody would do that? One for yourself and two as gifts and then you can all share games.
I only hope that such a low price doesn’t mean higher prices in games and accessories. It’s an unlikely situation but it could happen.

Of all three companies (Microsoft, Sony, Nintento), Nintendo is the only one that understands the meaning of gaming. It’s all about having fun like pretty everything else. It’s not about stunning graphics and performance and processor speed and hard drive space. It’s about people having fun with whatever they have.

Sony has gone crazy with their 600 USD Playstation 3. Sure, it has all the technology of the future, but most people can’t afford it. Or maybe they can, but they can no longer afford food after they afford the PS3.

Besides, being more active while playing games with the Wii controller (Wiimote) is more interesting than sitting in a couch only moving fingers after paying 600 USD.

Aside from the price, another thing Nintendo has kept in the dark are dates. All we know is that we won’t be able to buy the Wii for several months, but we will be able to buy it by the end of the year, along with a bunch of games. It’s definitely going to be a Christmas gift for many people. Nintendo has also stated that within 6 months of Wii’s release, Super Smash Brother Brawl will be out.

I hope they don’t change the name of that game like they changed Nintendo Revolution to Wii.
