Microsoft Optical Mouse by Starck

May 12th, 2006

IMG_5584I consider this to be Microsoft’s best move ever: to hire a world renown designer for one of their products. And of all products it had to be the computer mouse; one of the most used tools after the pen (that’s my personal opinion).

I bought this little design last November for a mere 15 CAD. That is one hell of a deal for something from Starck. I like it so much that I still have the nicely made package that came with it. I am such a freak about it that I even kept the label on the wire.

When moving gliding the mouse, it’s so soft that it actually feels like the mouse isn’t even touching the surface. Some mice (like other one’s from Microsoft) require to press hard on the buttons to click. With Starck’s mouse, a gentle click is enough and the sound is pretty nice.

I am currently in the market for another one, but this thing has gone off the market. If you know where I could find, please let me know. If I can’t find it, I will consider getting Apple’s Mighty Mouse which is freakishly many times more expensive than Starck’s.

By the way, for all Microsoft haters out there, aside from the package and the label, Microsoft’s logo is nowhere on the mouse. Every company put their logo on every product they make. For once, a company (Microsoft) stands aside and leaves it to the designer to sign the product.
