Memoirs of a Geisha (2005) and the Soundtrack

December 29th, 2005

memoirs_of_a_geishaPeople are shaped by the dramas of their childhood. Memoirs of a Geisha is a movie about love, passion and will. Ziyi Zhang has performed well in all her roles (Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Rush Hour 2, Hero).

The unfortunate thing about this movie is that it’s in English. It’s weird to see Japanese people living in Japan, all speaking English. I have the habit of watching movies in their original version, whichever language they are in. I am sure I would have liked the movie much more if it were in Japanese.

John Williams turned down Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire to compose the soundtrack for Memoirs of a Geisha. I would never have guessed John Williams had anything to do with this album which is very enjoyable and dramatic. I actually like it more than the King Kong soundtrack by James Newton Howard.
